Calm reading

Read a long guide with fewer distractions

Menus, buttons and notifications keep pulling your eyes away from the page you want.

A long guide is easier to read when the page is quiet. Reader view, print preview and a few phone settings remove most of what pulls your eyes away.

None of these needs an account or an install. They are tools you already have.

What is a low-distraction view?

It is a way of seeing the same words with less around them. The menu, the footer and floating buttons disappear, and the text sits on a plain background.

Blissful does not have a special mode for this, so we use what your browser provides. That also means it works on every page.

How do I use reader view?

Most browsers can show a page as plain text and pictures.

  1. Open the guide you want.
  2. Look for a page icon in the address bar, or open the browser menu and look for Reader view, Reading mode or Immersive Reader.
  3. Tap it. The page reflows into a clean column.
  4. Most readers let you change the font, text size and background. Choose what feels calm.

If you cannot find it, try another browser. Reader view is more reliable on pages that are mainly text, which most guides are.

What if I do not have reader view?

Use print preview as a stand-in. Press Ctrl and P (Cmd and P on a Mac) and look at the preview. Menus and floating buttons are left off, so you see mainly the words.

Close the print window without printing, or choose Save as PDF if you would like a copy to read offline. Our guide on larger text and print options covers this in more detail.

How do I keep my phone from interrupting?

A quiet page does not help if your phone buzzes every minute.

  • Switch on Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode for the length of the read.
  • Silence the family WhatsApp group for twenty minutes, not for good.
  • Lower the screen brightness to a comfortable level and keep other devices out of reach.

Set a short window, such as one section at a time. Our meditation timer works as a simple reading timer if you like to see the time pass.

How do I read a long guide in pieces?

Each section answers one question, so you can stop between sections without losing the thread.

Read one section, look up for a breath, then read the next. Bookmark the page so you can return later. If you share the device, our guide to clearing plans and bookmarks from this browser shows how to tidy up afterwards.

What if I still cannot settle?

That is common on a tired day. Try a smaller bite, such as the first two sections, or the one-step task view for a planner.

If reading leaves you dizzy, with sore eyes or a pounding head, it is fine to stop. A doctor or optometrist can help, and our support page lists where to start for wider concerns.

A small routine for a long read

Do this before a guide you want to finish.

  1. Switch on reader view.
  2. Silence notifications.
  3. Read one section.
  4. Look away from the screen for a slow breath.

After the last section, you might like a short guided sit. Sadhguru’s free seven-minute meditation in the Miracle of Mind app is optional, and the guide stands alone without it.

More help is gathered on our accessibility and digital confidence guides, and our focus and attention topic page has gentle practices for steadier attention.

Common questions

What is reader view?

It is a built-in browser mode that shows only the article text and pictures, with a plain background. Look for a small page icon in the address bar, or the menu. Not every browser names it the same way, but most have one.

Why does the page jump when I read on my phone?

Usually something at the top or bottom is loading or sliding in. Reader view avoids this. You can also let the page finish loading before you scroll, or switch off any pop-up banners in your phone's notification settings.

Can I read in sections instead of all at once?

Yes, and it can help. Each section answers one question, so read one, close the page and come back. Bookmark the guide so you can return to the section you want.

Will this help if I find it hard to focus?

Fewer distractions make it easier to stay, but they are not a fix for everything. If concentration is a worry, our focus guides offer gentle practices. A doctor can help if it affects daily life.

After a long read, a short guided sit lets your eyes and mind rest, with nothing else to scroll through.
